General donations to support the organization
The difference between giving to a project and a general donation, what its receipt says, and why it is not in published project figures.
When you donate you choose between:
- A specific project: your donation goes to that project, is allocated to its trees at the tree cost, and shows in the project's progress and, if you choose to show your name, in its contributors.
- General support of the organization: it supports all of the organization's work, and the organization decides where it is spent as needed (for example trees planted by volunteers, transport, salaries, and food on planting days).
How do I give a general donation?
- On the website: open /donate, or choose "General support of the organization" in the "Donate to" step of any project's donation page, then choose the amount and payment method as usual.
- In the app: on the donation screen choose General support of the organization.
- It can be monthly too: every month becomes a general donation with its own receipt.
The receipt
The receipt has a sequential number and a verification code like any donation, and says "General support of …" instead of a project name, with no allocation details. The public verification page shows the same text.
Where does it show?
- In My donations and receipts in your account and in the app.
- Not in published project figures: funding progress, contributors, public statistics, "Where does the money go?", the annual report, nor in the impact passport and map, because it funds no specific trees. That is also why it has no donation certificate.
- "Show my name" does not apply to it, because it is never listed publicly.
